So you're thinking about Botox. Maybe you've been thinking about it for a while. Maybe your friend just got it and looks amazing and now you're curious. Maybe you caught a glimpse of yourself on a Zoom call and thought, "when did those forehead lines get so deep?"
Whatever brought you here, welcome. Getting Botox for the first time can feel like a big deal — and honestly, it kind of is. It's your face. You want to make sure you know what you're getting into.
I've walked a lot of first-timers through this process at Aesthetic Touch by Raya here in Plano, and I want to give you the same honest rundown I give them. No fluff, no scare tactics. Just the stuff you actually need to know.
What Even Is Botox?
Botox is an injectable that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles. When those muscles relax, the wrinkles they've been creating smooth out. That's it. It's not filler (that's a different thing — we'll get there another day). It's not surgery. It's a quick treatment that softens the lines caused by years of making facial expressions.
The most common spots people get Botox:
Forehead lines — those horizontal lines that show up when you raise your eyebrows
Frown lines — the vertical "11" lines between your brows that make you look angry even when you're not
Crow's feet — the little lines that fan out from the corners of your eyes when you smile
The whole thing takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You walk in, you get treated, you walk out. That's the appointment.
The Pain Question
I know this is what you really want to know, so let's just get it out of the way: it's not bad.
The needles are tiny — way smaller than what you'd see at a blood draw. Most people describe it as a quick little pinch that lasts about a second per injection. Some spots are more sensitive than others, but overall? It's very manageable. I've had clients say the anticipation was ten times worse than the actual experience.
If you're someone who really doesn't like needles, just tell me. I'll talk you through it, we'll go at your pace, and it'll be over before you know it.
When Will I Actually See Results?
Here's the part that trips some people up: Botox doesn't work instantly. You're not going to look in the mirror right after and see a dramatic difference.
The timeline goes something like this:
Days 3-5: You'll start to notice things subtly changing. The muscles feel a little heavier, and lines start to soften.
Days 10-14: Full results kick in. This is when you'll see the real difference.
I actually love that it's gradual. It means the change happens slowly enough that it never looks sudden or jarring. People around you will just think you look really well-rested.
Will I Look Frozen?
This is the fear, right? You've seen someone on TV or in real life with that waxy, expressionless look and thought "absolutely not."
I get it. And the truth is — that look comes from too much Botox or bad placement. It's not what happens when it's done right.
At Aesthetic Touch by Raya, my whole thing is natural results. I use precise amounts in strategic locations so you can still raise your eyebrows, smile, laugh, and make normal facial expressions. You'll just do all of that with fewer wrinkles.
If "frozen" is a 10, I'm aiming for about a 4 or 5. Softened, not stiff.
How Long Does It Last?
Typically 3 to 4 months. After that, the muscles gradually start to wake back up and movement returns. Most people come in for maintenance about 3 to 4 times a year.
Fun fact: clients who keep up with regular treatments often find their Botox starts lasting longer over time. The muscles get smaller and weaker from not being used, so each session builds on the last.
How to Prepare (It's Pretty Simple)
You don't need to do anything dramatic to prepare. Just a few small things:
A week before: Try to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E. These thin your blood and can increase bruising. Tylenol is fine.
24 hours before: Skip the alcohol.
Day of: Come with a clean face (no makeup on the treatment area), eat something beforehand, and wear something comfortable.
That's it. No fasting, no elaborate prep routine.
What Happens at the Actual Appointment?
Here's how it goes at Aesthetic Touch by Raya:
First, we sit down and talk. I want to know what's bothering you, what you're hoping for, and what your expectations are. I'll look at your face, watch how your muscles move, and explain exactly what I'd recommend and why.
Then, if you're ready, we do the injections. I'll tell you before each one so there are no surprises. The whole treatment takes about 15 minutes.
After that, you get aftercare instructions and you're free to go. You can go back to work, pick up the kids, do whatever. There's no real downtime.
Things to Avoid Afterward
For the first 24 hours, just keep it low-key:
Don't lie flat for about 4 hours after treatment
Skip the intense workout
Don't rub or massage the areas that were treated
Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and anything with a lot of heat
After that first day, you're pretty much back to normal.
The Cost Question
I'm not going to throw out specific numbers here because it varies depending on what areas you're treating and how much product you need. At Aesthetic Touch by Raya, I'll give you transparent pricing during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
I'll also be straight with you about what you actually need versus what would just be nice to have. I'm never going to push you to treat areas you didn't come in for.
Still on the Fence?
That's okay. Thinking it over is smart. If you're in the Plano area — or Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Richardson, or anywhere in DFW — come in for a consultation. We'll talk through everything, I'll answer all your questions, and there's absolutely no obligation to book a treatment.
Sometimes just having a real conversation with someone takes the mystery out of it.
Book a consultation at Aesthetic Touch by Raya whenever you're ready. I'll be here.
